As of 24:00 on September 24, 2018, since the first generating unit was put into operation, the KAMCHAY Hydro-power Station has accumulated over 3 billion kWh of power generation and has been in safe operation for 2444 consecutive days. It created a new historical monument for the electricity and safety production of KAMCHAY Hydro-power Station. In addition, the hydro-power station provides a strong energy guarantee for the sustained and stable development of Cambodia's economy and society.
The KAMCHAY Hydro-power Project is located on the main stream of the KAMCHY River in Kampot Province in the southwest of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The dam site is 150 kilometers away from the capital, Phnom Penh. The main task of the hydro-power station is to generate electricity with functions such as flood control, irrigation, tourism and ecological protection. The total installed capacity of the power station is 194.1MW, and the average annual power generation is 498 million kilowatt-hours. It is the first BOT (build-operate-transfer) hydro-power project of the Cambodian government to attract investment by means of international bidding.
Cambodia's KAMCHY Hydro-power Station is a BOT project wholly invested and developed by Power Construction Corporation of China (Power China), with an investment of 340 million U.S. dollars. The project started construction on September 18, 2007, and officially entered the commercial operation period on August 1, 2012. The hydro-power station is the first overseas hydro-power investment project of Power China to invest and develop in the BOT. In addition, the project was not only China's largest BOT overseas hydro-power investment project at the time, but also Cambodia's largest foreign investment project at that time.
KAMCHAY Hydro-power Station is Cambodia's first large-scale hydro-power project to achieve grid-connected power generation. It has had a positive impact on Cambodia's adjustment of the national power and energy structure, alleviating the contradiction between supply and demand, and promoting infrastructure construction and population employment. It is also a key investment project of Power China to actively promote the implementation of the entire industrial chain integration strategy overseas under the guidance of the "Belt and Road Initiative" strategy. This project has been highly recognized by the local government and society.
